Three Ways to Create Great Content for Link Earning Campaigns

Three Ways to Create Great Content for Link Earning Campaigns

Great Link Earning Means Creating Great Content | BlueprintLink earning is one of the most beneficial search engine optimization tactics that a company can deploy. By gaining links, a site can increase its domain authority and boost its credibility within search engines. Link earning, however, takes lots of time and effort. Gone are the days of building links (especially through black-hat tactics)! Here to stay is the process of earning an impressive collection of relevant backlinks through meaningful link earning campaigns.

But how? I’ve learned these three ways to create great content for link earning campaigns from my fellow link earners at my favorite Atlanta SEO Company, Blueprint. Use these tips and your site will begin to earn quality backlinks that bolster your rank online.

Use The Talent You Already Have

To build great content, first and foremost, use your talent! Think about the skills and tools you have at your disposal to create something sharable. Do you have experience in video production? Does your team have an eye for designing awesome infographics? Perhaps you’re a wonderful wordsmith with a fondness for blogging. Of course, if you’re a full-service digital marketing agency like Blueprint, you’ll likely have each of these capabilities at your fingertips. However, as you’re planning the form of content with which to earn links, consider these statistics:

  • Videos – 75% of executives watch work-related videos on business websites at least once a week
  • Infographics – Infographics are Liked and shared on social media 3X more than any other type of content.
  • Blog Posts – Content with relevant images gets 94% more views than content without relevant images.

Make the Content Relevant

Once you’ve decided on a form of content to utilize, ensure that your creation is relevant. Whether you’re earning links for your own site or for a client’s, take the time to research the industry at hand. Having a better understanding of the industry and even its current events will help shape your piece of content into the most relevant form it can be. Answer these questions to get started.

  • Who will I be targeting?
  • What is my target audience most interested in?
  • Are there any hot topics or current events affecting my target audience?
  • What will encourage my target audience to make use of my link earning content the most?

One of the best ways to maximize your link earning efforts is to create content that is relevant to the greatest number of people (and their websites) as possible. With that being said, it’s often easier to generate a content topic that is more universal and casts a wider net of relevance rather than a topic that is specific to a smaller niche.

For example, say you’re earning links for a pest control company who specializes in removal of mosquitoes. You may choose a buzzing content topic such as, “Zika Virus 101,” which has potential to garner links from a variety of resources like other pest control company websites, bug habit blogs, educational websites, and more. In contrast, a content topic like, “Best Professional Mosquito Removal Tactics,” may only be relevant to and garner links from other pest control company websites. Understand the KPI attached to this specific link earning campaign and then adjust accordingly.

Make the Content Meaningful

The secret sauce to earning links lies in the distribution of the content by competitors and other content creators in the market. Answer the question, “Why should this website want to post my content (and thus, link back to me)?” The answer will be different depending on your target audience and the type of content you’ve decided to develop. Perhaps your content will serve promotional purposes for the prospect. Maybe your piece is a great learning tool for your prospect’s users. All that matters is that you have an answer to this question. That way, you’ve already created a meaningful value-add for your target audience.

100% agree that the biggest factor of successfully earning meaningful links is by thinking about who you’re targeting and reaching out to with your great content. It can be the best video or infographic, but if it’s not relative to the influencer you’re trying to reach and their audience, then it’s just not going to happen. That also means the link wouldn’t be as valuable even if they did still share your content! Inbound marketing is proving to us constantly that it’s all about relevancy and catering to your audience at the time they have the question or need.

Very relevant and helpful blog post about link earning campaigns and how they have changed over the course of the years! Equally as important as content is tracking your link earning campaign to gauge its success.

Love the stat about 75% of business executives watch videos during work hours. With Facebook Live, the improvement of Periscope and the ability to simply record simple but informational videos with nothing more than your smartphone there is no reason every company can’t make video a regular morsel in their content diet. And, as you stated, the more that content gets consumed and shared, the more valuable that content becomes for building websites that have authority.

Great points Liz! I especially enjoyed hearing about targeting the right audience and focusing on the content that meets their interests. When those two factors are executed properly, it can improve any link-earning campaign. Without considering these two crucial factors, it’s possible to waste a lot of time and energy without getting any results. It is important for business owners to know that even though it sounds very easy in theory, the actual work is much more complex and time consuming. It is great to consult others that have more expertise to have a successful link-earning campaign.

Wow Liz, this is very intuitive. I was delighted to read the information regarding making the content more relevant to the target audience. Also it is vital that once you find that target audience you are answering those questions that have been asked more recently instead of old question unless they are recurring. Timely answers to questions will make your content that more relevant and useful. Again great read!
