The Field Monitor

The Field Monitor

For a video guy, having a way to reference filmed material while on the field is a incredibly convenient. It makes me shudder to think that, once upon a time, this convenience was a luxury not easily obtained. But, luckily for me, the lcd screens that allow you to instantly review shots and reference earlier material are standard for most cameras. Recently, however, the Blueprint video production department went a step further and purchased a 7″ high-definition field monitor, but not just for reviewing shots.

Occasionally, there are times when a teleprompter is required for on-screen talent. In these cases, hooking our new little field monitor up to a laptop and using it as a teleprompter display is a breeze. Since the field monitor can be screwed onto one of our lightstands it makes it convenient to place in the set without having to require a lot from the talent as far as position and movement. Aside from this, it provides a great way for the director and producer to view the content recently filmed without having to crowd around and squint into a tiny screen.

All in all, it was a worthwhile investment, not just for our sake but for the client’s sake, as they can review shots on the field. It presents a very professional, on-point appearance for our video production team.
