This experience report delves into the information architecture of World Information Architecture Day, what is now the world’s largest information architecture celebration on the planet. In it, you will hear the backoffice interworkings of our non-profit group, learning some of the challenges we faced this year as we grew and scaled our operations. I specifically share the philosophy, techniques, and tools I utilized as the Global Executive Producer.
As Jorge Arango prominently states on the World IA Day website this year, “IA is how we make sense of [information].” Attendees will learn how certain information architecture techniques can be applied to a variety of business problems, along with references to an emerging philosophical lens that helps make sense of information as it pervades our world.
David Peter Simon was the Global Executive Producer of World IA Day 2016, a simultaneous worldwide celebration of Information Architecture.
Previously he worked as a Senior Consultant at the design and engineering firm ThoughtWorks, where clients included Amnesty International, GUCCI, Standard Bank, and hepsiburada. His writing has been featured in publications such as UX Booth, UX Mag, and UX Matters.
He currently is at the Oxford Internet Institute, where he investigates the potentialities of participatory design and mobile technology for Community Health Workers in east and south Africa.
