Google Grants

A Google Ad Grant is a program offered by Google that provides eligible nonprofit organizations with up to $10,000 in free advertising credit to use on Google Ads. That adds up to $120,000 annually to help your organization raise awareness, attract donors, recruit volunteers, and promote their causes through targeted search ads.

Most 501(c)(3) nonprofits are eligible for a Google Ad Grant with some exceptions, including governmental entities, hospitals and healthcare organizations, academic institutions. Take our Google Grant Eligibility quiz to learn if you qualify!

As a rule of thumb, unless someone is managing your Google Ad Grant account at least 4 hours each week, you should consider partnering with a Google Ad Grant agency. They can use their experience to more efficiently manage the account, make sure you stay compliant, and get a better return from your $10,000 advertising credit.

Staying compliant with Google Ad Grant policies is crucial for maintaining access to the program. Some rules include:

  • No Single-Word Keywords Permitted:
  • No Overly Generic Keywords:
  • No Keywords with a Quality Score of 1 or 2
  • Maintain a 5% Click-Through Rate (CTR)
  • Maintain at least two ads per ad group and two ad groups per campaign.

If you have partnered with a Google Ad Grant agency to handle the application process for you all they will need is your tax ID, general contact information, and a Google account associated with your nonprofit!

Google Ad Grant management can cost your organization between $750-$2,000 depending on the agency and scale of the campaigns. Some agencies may quote a cheaper price but those will place limits on the amount of work they are willing to do for you. That could mean if your account gets deactivated for not being compliant they might not help as soon as a more dedicated agency.
